Chemistry Sept. 8 & 9, 2014

OBJECTIVE: Students will design in writing and implement a lab activity to demonstrate their understanding of the scientific method.
W.O.D. Flux- a state of constant change or flow.
WARM-UP

1. List the steps that normally make up the scientific method and briefly state what is done in each stage.

Home work
1.Define scientific law, scientific theory, hypothesis.
2.Is it possible for (a) a hypothesis to become a theory? Explain your answer. (b) theory to become law or for a law to become a theory? Explain your answer.
3.Explain the difference between manipulated(independent) variable, responding(dependent) variable, & control variable.

Classwork
Review the ppt. on thinking like scientist.
In 2-3 groups (a) define: experiment, law, theory, hypothesis, & observations. (b) using the sealed boxes design an experiment  to find out “what is inside the box?” i.e. make observations, create hypotheses, how to test hypotheses, develop a theory, collaborate with others, & make your findings public. (30 min.)
