Chemistry Sept. 2 & 3, 2014

WARM-UP

Using the Far side comic strip shown on the screen, write 5 different observations and 5 inferences that can be derived from these observations.
Classwork part 1
OBJECTIVE : Students will make observations and inferences about a scientific concept and write a summary of their findings.
Students will use the internet to gather information to answer the question, “how do we know” that atoms exist? Or “How do we know” what is inside an atom?
Students will choose one of the prompts above and type it into the Google search engine. From the “hits” , write a summary (1-2 paragraphs) explaining your answer. Afterwards, make list of all observations and their inferences used in your summary. (25 min)
Home work
1. List 3 reasons for studying chemistry.
2. There are 5 major branches of chemistry. Name them and state briefly what each branch studies.
