CHEMISTRY APRIL 25 & 26, 2019

OBJECTIVE: Students will describe and explain the behavior of gases using the gas laws.

W.O.D. Sobriety-moderation from excess, calm, tranquility

WARM-UP
1. If a  gas has a pressure of 100 kPa is held in a rigid container (volume constant) and the temperature of the gas is reduce by half of it original value. What will be the new pressure? Explain your answer

CW-Combined  and Ideal gas laws (Notebooks)

1. Write the formula for the combined gas law.
2. Why is the law called the “combined gas law”?
3. What is kept constant in the combined gas law?
4. Complete page 462 #15 & 16
5. When all factors of a gas change (P,V,T), the amount of gas can be calculated using the ideal gas law. Write the ideal gas law equation and state the letter used to represent the number of moles of a gas.
6. In the ideal gas law, what is the “ideal gas constant” R equal to? (remember to give units)
7. Complete page 465 #26 & 27

Ideal gas vs. real gases

1. What is an ideal gas?
2. What are the assumptions of the kinetic theory that apply to an ideal gas?
3. Does an ideal gas exist? Explain.
4. Under which conditions do real gases stop following the ideal gas law?
5. Under which conditions do real gases do follow the ideal gas law?
