Chemistry Sept. 2 & 3, 2015

OBJECTIVE: Students will describe using examples, the 5 branches of chemistry and discuss the role chemistry plays in improving the quality of life BY CREATING a poster.

WARM-UP
1.Define the following terms: Observation and inference
2.Using the object on the teacher’s desk, make as many observation as you can.

3.Use to of your observations and make inferences from them.

CW

Use the chart paper found at your desk to create a visual presentation to show your understanding of the topic on the table.
Each group will make a presentation to the class, to provide information on their topic.
#1 Branches of chemistry (all 5 with example for each)
#2 big idea in chemistry (only 1, with 2 example)
#3 chemistry and medicine (1 example)
#4 chemistry and biotechnology (1 example)
#5 Chemistry and Making new materials (1 example)
#6  Chemistry and Alternate energy sources(1 example)
#7 Chemistry and space exploration (1 example)


Rubric
Information-term(s) is/are correctly and clearly defined with the link to chemistry clearly stated. Example(s) is/are given (5pts)
Artistic features–the presentation contains illustrations/pictures/drawings, along with words in a creative manner. (5pts)
Oral presentation (2 mins)-each person must speak about one aspect of the topic (5pts)

Gallery walk and Oral presentation

All completed posters must be securely hung on the cabinets near their work bench. When announced, each group moves to the next table in numerical order.(1 goes to 2, 2 goes to 3, etc.)
Use sticky notes to grade each poster as you move. Take notes at each station in your notebooks.
Each student must make a 2:00 minutes(max.) verbal presentation about their example of how chemistry affects our lives.
The order of presentation is from #1 to #7
