Biology April 22, 2014

OBJECTIVE: Students will learn how muscles and joints work to produce movement.

WARM-UP
1.Define a joint.

2.In the elbow joint, name 3 structures that make up that joint and state the function of each structure.
Home work
1.Learn the biological names of the major bones of the human skeleton.
2.Learn to structure and functions of the elbow and knee joints.
3.Prepare for a short evaluation on the above information.
Classwork
There are 3 main types of movable joints: hinged, ball and socket, and pivot. Give an example of each type of joint in the body and name the main bones involved and and the type of motion possible.
Skeletal muscle is made up of the following components. Show the relationship between these parts and show where the sarcomere is located: myofibrils, muscle bundle, muscle fibers (muscle cell), sarcomere, myosin molecules, and actin molecules.
