Biology Sept. 9 & 10, 2015

OBJECTIVE: Students will use paper molecules to create several biological molecules and will orally describe the chemical reaction involved.
W.O.D. Redact-to rectify, change
WARM-UP
1.Enzyme are referred to as “biological catalysts”. Define this term.
2.All enzymes have an “active site”. Describe this active site and state its function.

3.What is an inhibitor?

HW
Scientists develop theories and laws to describe the world around us. Using the questions below, discuss how scientists use laws and theories to understand and explain natural phenomena.
1.Define a theory and a scientific law.
2.How are theories and laws formed?
3.Can a theory become a law and vice versa?
4.Explain the term “falsification of theories” and give an example.

Upcoming dates
1. Test on water and its properties, elements in living organisms, biological molecules  and enzymes on Tues Sept. 15, 2015
2. October 19-rough draft of IA research question and topic it falls under.

CW
Use paper molecules to create each of the following:
a.A disaccharide
b.A dipeptide
c.A saturated triglyceride
d.An unsaturated triglyceride
e.A polysaccharide
f.A polypeptide.
In each case highlight the newly formed bond.
