OBJECTIVE: Students will discuss orally the effects of high blood pressure on the functioning of the circulatory and nervous system as indicated in the case study “Facing the pain”.

WARM-UP
1.If a person’s blood pressure is 120/80, what does each number measure?

2.What could be some causes of high blood pressure?

Classwork
OBJECTIVES: On completion of this case students will be able to:
1. Describe the effect of high blood pressure on the integrity of blood vessels.
2. Describe the link between high blood pressure an aneurysm.
3. Draw a simple spinal reflex and differentiate between sensory, motor, and inter-neurons.
4. Understand the function of the trigeminal nerve.
5. Relate inappropriate action potentials in sensory neurons with the sensation of pain.
