ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE SEPTEMBER 10 & 11, 2018

OBJECTIVE: Students will create a foldable to show their understanding of makeup of our environment and describe the relationship between the components of an environment.
WARM-UP
Define the following terms: environment, environmental science, natural resource, renewable natural resource, non-renewable natural resource.

Engagement (10 mins)

Using YouTube, find the video titled “What is Environmental Science? Definition and Scope of the Field” by Margaret Cunningham or use the url: 
After viewing the video answer the following questions in your notebooks: 
1. What are 3 main goals of environ. Science? 
2. Explain why environ. Science is called an “interdisciplinary field of study”?  
3. What is an ecosystem?
4. What are biotic and abiotic factors of an environment? Give 1-2 examples of each type

Foldable- types of ecosystems

FORMAT-4 pages:
page 1 is the cover page and should contain student’s name, class period, type of ecosystem being studied.
CONTENTS: On page 2, describe using diagram &/or cut out pictures, along with words to describe the ecosystem of your choice. Label all biotic and abiotic factors found in your ecosystem.
Page 3: Describe what you think will happen in your ecosystem, if one of the following were to happen: (a) large chemical spill (b) If it rained or snowed very heavily for several days.(c). No plants were able to grow (choose only one )

Page 4. For your ecosystem, show how the biotic and abiotic factors are interrelated using 2-3 specific examples from your system)
